Controlled research suggests the productivity gains can be substantial for some professional writing tasks. In a randomized experiment involving 453 college-educated professionals, researchers found that participants given ChatGPT completed assigned writing tasks 40% faster on average while output quality rose 18%.

Those results should not be treated as a guaranteed personal productivity rate. Instead, use them as evidence that measurable time savings are possible—and then measure your own workflow.
